Trade advertisements

We welcome advertisements! Private advertisements can be inserted free of charge in the Forum by those current members of the Hunt or the CHSC who have registered as members of the Forum. Trade advertisements can appear in either or both the sidebars of most pages. We do not carry trade advertising in the Forum to avoid overt competition with (free) private advertisements or in the Gallery because there is insufficient space width-wise.
Each sidebar advertisement is a full-colour block roughly 3.5cm wide (the sidebar width – which varies a bit by the type of screen the user has) by roughly 8cm high, i.e. an 8cm ‘column-inch’. If you need a longer column, say 12cm, then the cost is pro rated. The Mr Mole sample in the left sidebar is a standard (8cm) slot. The Support British Farmers advert in the right sidebar is a non-standard 12.5cm.

Although advertisements are solicited from August onwards, each advertisement is displayed for one year from mid-October to coincide with the issue of the Red Book Meets booklet. Our unit space rates for advertisements running from mid-October 2009 are:

Animated advertisements (see below) are quoted for individually at a rate which reflects their content and complexity.

Sidebar slots are allocated on a first come first served basis - early ones appear nearer the top - with a choice of side. The relative prices of the slots are set each season to reflect the popularity of the various pages the previous season. The Home page is by far the most visited page since it is the 'way in' to the rest of the website and it also contains the News column which is updated regularly (often daily during the hunting season). The Home page also contains only two advertisement slots instead of the four on other pages.

Discount packages

Anyone who advertises in either Red Book or Foot Slogger (or both) for the 2008-9 season can have, on request, one free advertisement on a non-premium page (the 'Other pages' above) but cannot mandate either a particular page or position on that page although we will try to accommodate preferences where possible. Anyone who advertises on the Home or Meets pages and in Red Book and in Foot Slogger qualifies for a 10% discount off the whole bill.

Meets page

From an advertising point of view, the Meets page is different from other pages in that if the page displays a full season's Meet card, the page also contains a link to a Meets document (an Acrobat .pdf) for printing or downloading. Anyone who buys a slot on the Meets page also gets an equivalent identical slot in this document. The Meets page also has a special download for mobile phones; the mobile phone version does not contain sidebar advertising but if one advertiser buys all the advertising space on the Meets page (i.e. has exclusive rights to the page), the mobile phone version contains a “Sponsored by...” header.

Slot limit

From the 2008-9 season, there is a restriction of 4 slots per page (2 each side) except on the Home page where there are only two slots available.

Page sponsorship

If you wish to have both the left-hand and right-hand top slots on a page and exclusive rights to the page (i.e. with no other advertising on that page), add 100% to the unit price total. This does not apply to the Home page since it only supports two slots anyway.

Animation

We support advertisements which are animated using Adobe Flash (as .swf files) or as animated GIFs — but there are some restrictions:

• animated advertisements are limited to one per page
• animated advertisements are not accepted for the Country (map) page
• advertisements which use excessive PC processing power or network bandwidth or file size will not be accepted
• we will, on request, create simpler animated artwork free of charge but for the Home page only

Animated advertisements are treated as single advertisements (one slot) from the point of view of slot limits but are charged for on a tariff which reflects their content: for example, three related but non-identical advertisements which are merged into one Flash animation will be charged at the rate for three advertisements.

Advertising by Cottesmore farmers

Although the For Sale and Wanted forum areas are essentially for private advertising, farmers in the Cottesmore country may also (at the discretion of the forum moderator) place specific For Sale and Wanted trade advertisements there (example: “1992 Massey-Ferguson 240, 1600 hours, £11,000 ono”). General service trade advertising from farmers is expected to be placed in the (chargeable) slots on each page in the same way as other trade advertising (example: “Contract combining with MF 7246 Activa and 7260 Beta; drainage and groundworks; hedge trimming”). Remember, however, that advertisements in the Forum are plain text with the possible addition of a photo whereas trade slots on each page are full-colour blocks.
