Help, Access and site map

Access for those with disabilities

Except for the Forum and Gallery (and some 'maintenance' pages not accessible by users), all pages contain a standard seven-button horizontal menu at the head of the page. This menu is the same on every page in which it appears; this is to help those who have difficulty navigating from page to page. (The Forum and Gallery contain abbreviated versions of the standard main menu but in the same style).

Selecting a main menu item either navigates directly to a target page (Contact, for example, takes you directly to the Contact Us page) or, where there are several further target pages (as there are with Hunt or CHSC for examples) to an index page which has links to the target pages. This simple selection mechanism is there to help those with limited manual dexterity with a mouse. But to prevent this being a nuisance to others, each main menu item which has menu items 'below' it also has pop-up menus to provide short-cuts. These pop-up menus only work when your browser has 'active scripting' (in this case Javascript) enabled. If Javascript is not enabled, main menu items must be selected (clicked) as previously described. A few second-level menu items have third-level menu items below and - like the main (first level) menu items - these are supported using both clickable links and pop-up menus. If Javascript is enabled, main menu items and pop-up menus change (invert) colour when the user's mouse hovers over them (and main menu items visibly 'depress' when clicked) to help those with visual impairments. All this is easier to try than to explain - please experiment and see for yourself!

Almost all body text is black on white. In the few instances where it isn't (in tables such as the site-map below, where successive rows are colour contrasted to make reading easier), the text-to-background colour and brightness contrast has been selected so as to be visible to those who have difficulty discriminating between colours. And apart from text within graphics, all main body text is resizable using your browser's View / Text Size feature. This is to assist those who have difficulty reading the standard print size (which is roughly 10 point - 0.7 em).

Graphics - including menu graphics - have alternative descriptive tags ('Alt attributes') which are readable by the text-to-voice readers used by those with visual impairments.

In the footer of most pages there is a link to this 'Help, Accessibility and Site-map' page and also to the 'Search this site' page which allows the site to be seached in Google style which should be familiar to most users. Pages in the Forum and the Gallery do not contain this footer and are not included in the search; they have links to 'Help, Accessibility and Site-map' in their headers instead and have their own specialised search features.

Registration

With very few exceptions, this website is open for everyone to view. But two areas of the website - the Forum and Gallery - can only be accessed fully by registered users. A user should register for both the Forum and the Gallery from the Register menu item on the main pages of the Forum or of the Gallery (one registration covers both). Registrations are only accepted from users who are already registered on the CH/CHSC database maintained by the Hunt Secretary. If you try to register but your request is rejected because your email address is not already registered on the CH/CHSC database, you should contact either the Hunt Secretary (for Subscribers and Farmers) or the CHSC Membership Secretary (for CHSC members) via the Contact Us page or by phone in order to update your details or to subscribe or join - as appropriate. When you try to register, you will first receive an email asking you to confirm your request by activating a special website link provided in the email. This verifies that you do indeed own the email address you have quoted and are not someone maliciously misusing someone else's email address. When you have done this, your request is passed to the Forum and Gallery Administrator who will check that your email address and other details are already registered on the CH/CHSC database. If they are, you will receive another email letting you know that your registration is complete and your userid is active.

Private advertisements

Within the Forum, in addition to being able to view, registered users can advertise ('post') private (non-trade) For Sale and Wanted items in the Classified Advertisements section and also send private messages to each other.
Within the Gallery, in addition to being able to view, registered users can send e-cards containing photos from the Gallery. The ability to upload photos to the Gallery is restricted to the official CH or CHSC photographer for an event. Apart from these privileged individuals, registered users cannot upload photos to the Gallery.
There is, however, a need to allow registered users to include photos in the Forum when necessary. When a For Sale advertisement is posted, the advertiser may need to include a photograph of the item for sale. This can be done in two ways:

Since all advertisements are viewable by anyone on the Internet and may contain photographs, the private advertisement sections in the Forum are monitored by a ‘moderator’. Any advertisements which are not acceptable to the moderator will be removed, and anyone who posts overtly offensive material will be deregistered and blacklisted.

Trade advertisements

If you wish to place a commercial advertisement, please have a look at our Advertising possibilities and rate card and then email your requirements to 'Advertising' from the Contact Us email form.

Problems and suggestions

If you wish to report problems with this website or have difficulty using it or would like to suggest an enhancement, please email 'This website' from the Contact Us email form. If you cannot use the Contact Us email form successfully to do this, please contact the Hunt Secretary in the first instance.

Standards

With the exception of some of the Forum and Gallery pages, this site has been validated to conform to the XHTML 1.0 Transitional industry standard. This means that it should not suddenly stop working when new versions of browsers are introduced. And all reasonable steps have been taken to make the site also conform to the W3G Web Accessibility initiative (WCAG 2.0) levels 1 and 2 with the exception that accessibility keys for menu items are not provided.
